Pat grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and started fly fishing as a kid in the early 70’s. His dad was from the Upper Peninsula and spent many weeks fishing the trout streams, lakes, and rivers in the U.P. and the bordering areas of Wisconsin.
Pat Ehlers opened his fly shop, The Fly Fishers, in 1988. He has been a teacher in fly-fishing schools and classes and has given seminars for events and organizations around the country. He is a past advisory board member of AFFTA, the American Fly Fishing Trade Association. Pat has worked as a rod designer for Echo Fly Rods and hosts numerous fishing trips every year through his fly shop.
Currently, Pat Ehlers is a fly designer and consultant for Rainy’s Flies of Logan, UT, and has designed fly tying tools for Renzetti Fly Tying Tools. He is also a member of their Legacy Fly Tying Team. Pat has guided throughout the Great Lakes as well as Montana and Alaska. He has appeared in numerous TV shows throughout the country; both regionally and nationally. He is also a member of the Scientific Anglers’ Ambassador Team. He is a pro staff member for the following companies: Mercury Marine, Vexus Boats, Minn-Kota and Humminbird, Engel Coolers, and Anglers Edge Marine, his sponsoring boat dealer. Pat is a member of the NPAA, the National Professional Anglers Association.
Pat has appeared in many TV shows as well as many podcasts over the years. He has written for several magazines and continues to write for American Fly Fishing magazine. He has contributed chapters to several Pat Ford books, who is a noted fishing photographer.
